Landscaping "Staples"
One very useful thing to have while laying down
fabric is landscaping staples. There are two types of
staples that I've seen:

  • Staple type- the bona fide landscaping staples
that look like mini croquet wickets
  • Stake type- look like small tent stakes
Both types are used in the same way. You or your
partner hold the fabric tight and you just press the
staple through the barrier into the ground.
Sometimes it helps to double the barrier over
along the edges to make sure it doesn't rip
through the staples. This helps keep the barrier in
place before the mulch or stone you put on top of
it keeps it in place.
While you can get by without staples, I've found
that they make the whole process much
smoother, as you don't have to worry about your
fabric blowing away.
