What to Buy
If you go to a home improvement store, there are
several option in outdoor lighting for you to choose
from:

  • Pre-sorted Kits - these kits come with
    transformers, wire, and lights
  • Individual Parts
  • Transformers - these scale down the voltage
    from an outlet to a lower voltage the lights
    can use, look on the package to see how
    many lights it can handle and how long of a
    cord it comes with or can accept
  • Outdoor Fixtures - you can buy a variety of
    different styles of lights to suit your personal
    tastes, just make sure that they are
    compatible with your transformer
  • Spotlights - these often can hook in the
    same line with outdoor fixtures, and add
    some flair to your lighting
A couple of other things to remember:

  • electrical tape: you can to cover up the ends to
    keep the wire from shorting
  • timer: if you don't want your transformer to be
    controlled by a photocell but to come on a certain
    time every day, you'll need a timer
