Breaking Ground
After you have your outline marked out, the next step
is to break ground. I've found that if you have access
to a rototiller or can rent one, that it is money well
spent if you are doing a sizeable bed.
However, if you don't feel comfortable using a
rototiller, or just don't have access to one, don't
despair. I've prepped many beds using a shovel. Just
take a fairly good scoop from the bed and turn the
ground over, returning it the hole you just created.
Keep going across the bed in progressive rows. If it's
not perfect, it doesn't matter, just as long as the
ground is broken up.
